AKASHI KUNIYUKI ♦ TOUKEN RANBU |
Akashi Kuniyuki is a Kamakura period tachi made by the founder of the Rai school, Rai Kuniyuki. He was given to Yuuki Hideyasu's (Otegine's owner) 6th son Matsudaira Naoyoshi and passed down in the Matsudaira clan from 1682 to 1871. The Matsudaira clan ruled over the Akashi domain in Harima province (present-day southwestern Hyougo Prefecture in Kansai), which is why he speaks with a Kansai accent. Although three Kuniyuki works were part of the old national treasures, Akashi is the only Kuniyuki work in the new list of national treasures of Japan.
He is Aizen Kunitoshi and Hotarumaru's (self-proclaimed) easygoing guardian but he is a rather hopeless individual, preferring to laze around and do nothing. He has a soft spot for his brother Hotarumaru. The way he speaks and how he says that his lack of motivation is his selling point are suspicious. One can't grasp the truth behind his actions.
